Network Rail

Britain's Railways Today - Network Rail

Network Rail owns and operates Britian's Railway infrastructure. It is a "not for dividend" company limited by guarentee. Network Rail's main customers are the Train Operating Companies and Freight Operators.

Network Rail owns the infrastructure, including the railway tracks, bridges, tunnels, signals, level crossings and most stations. It does not own passenger or commercial freight rolling stock. Network Rail took over ownership by buying Railtrack plc

Network Rail owns more than 2500 railway stations on the National Rail Network. Operation and management of most of them is carried out by the principal train operating company serving that station. Network Rail operates and manages 18 of the largest and busiest stations directly. The Network Rail-managed stations are:
